Dr. Susan Marks is an associate professor at Northern Arizona University in the Educational Specialties Program. She received her doctorate from the University of Oregon in 1995, and has worked in the field of special education for more than 25 years. During those 25 years, she worked in residential programs, rehabilitation programs, and school programs serving individuals with disabilities. Her schoolbased work has involved teaching, consulting, and researching special education issues. Prior to pursuing graduate studies, Dr. Marks taught and consulted in public schools for eleven years, during which she provided instructional services for students with significant disabilities, students with autism, students with emotional and behavioral disorders, and students with significant learning disabilities. Dr. Marks’ research interests have focused on a variety of school and educational issues. These have included teacher professional development, school reform involving inclusive educational practices, general and special education collaboration, and effective instructional practices for diverse learners.
